Hi guys,
It's been a long while since I updated the blog. It has always been the same few people who have been posting and to be honest, it's getting a bit stale. I appreciate talen's effort in keeping it updated and posting stuff about his life. If things are gonna continue this way, there is no point carrying on.
My holidays have been very busy to say the least. But I guess its better to be kept busy then to rest at home and do nothing. In the busiest holidays of my life, I had to go through training with my team members in preparation for the Himalayas hike in Nepal. We had no less than FIVE training sessions where we had to trek from Bukit Timah Hill to MacRitchie Reservoir. For those that heaven been through it, it takes approximately 4-5 hours to complete the route.
Personally, it was mental training rather than physical coz to see the same terrain over and over again for such a long period is torture. What kept me going was the fact that I was heavily subsidised by the Lee Foundation for the trip, so I treated it as something I had to do to earn that priviledge.
It wasn't merely just going there to enjoy ourselves. There was a theme we had to follow and a regime we had to adhere to as part of the leadership training. Peanuts compared to NS, but frustrating nonetheless.
So basically I spent the weeks prior to the trip to prepare for everything. The teachers wanted everything to be meticulous, as none of us had ever been to Nepal before.
When we got back, the next big thing was to plan Orientation for the Freshmen of 2008. It was a 3 day event and it was the very first time ever in the history of the school anyone attempted anything like that. Thus to plan a 3 day program that will not bore people to the core is cumbersome to say the least. Just when I thought I could take a breather, a bigger bomb awaited me after Himalayas.
The logistics alone were enough to kill. Luckily, the committee members were amazing and there were no major hiccups.
The highlight of the Orientation was the second day night walk. Students were required to take a walk in the school to look for clues and solve the mystery of the murderer. It was darn fun and to be honest, school at night is super scary and we blasted eerie music throughout the school to pump up the atmosphere.
There were ghosts to scare ppl and angels to aid the teams without talking. I was an angel. Haha.. A girl cried when she got scared by one of the ghosts. Overall it was exhilerating and I enjoyed it thoroughly. The people who came up with the clues and crime scenes were fantastic. Kudos to them!
Orientation ended yesterday and the team I led together with Esther was the overall champion! So proud man. For those wondering, yeah there were a few kips.
So as I'm typing this, school starts in 2 days and I'm having a much needed one day rest coz these 2 months really seemed like a blur.
Christmas gathering was a real dampener and to be honest, I'm really disappointed that even though it's only once a year, people don't bother to turn up. I cherish such moments. Guess people are too busy leading their own lives to pause and think about such things. I can only pray for them. U know who you are as you are reading this.
I apologize if I have been uncontactable or not replying your messages. No excuses, it's my fault. Being busy is not a reason, coz we make our own time. I think u guys know me by now, I like the feeling of being uncontactable and detached. I enjoy living in my own world so I don't cling on to things too much.
I have been pre-occupied with many activites and to be honest the one regret I have this holidays is not being able to be at the YMCA camp. It would have completed my holidays.
I will post an entry soon after I get my Nepal videos and pictures collaborated. I guarantee u guys will be inspired to go there.
2008 is gonna be exciting and I hope this year will be busier than the last.
God Bless!
alvin
(ps guys can we play more 11 a side soccer coz frankly I enjoy it much more than 6 a side. Though we got thrashed, we learn from it and we performed better than I expected. I think many of u share the same sentiments and for those who missed the game, u missed a lot..)
