Soccer, anyone?

Hi all,

I have since given up on the idea of the soccer venture. Although I have big plans for it, but based on what Kumar said, I’ve decided to give up. It is something I do agree with.

Today I made a mistake on organising of our soccer session. Apparently I organised the session but I never booked. However that is beside the point, the fact is out of the 15 person that went, 6 were MQ’s clique, David had 4 friends there and there is Jason and Jerry (If you do not know any of this people, you will have missed out a lot). Our clique members only left Teh, Benny and I. I do realise we have already become the fringe people.
I guess everyone (those that used to come in the hey days) do have the same sentiments as me. “The fun is gone. Why are we still coming?” I have told my frustrations to some of the regular whom are going now and some of them have initiated to organise for the long term.

I think it is time to pass the baton to others already. What do you think?

If any of you disagree with what I said, I am telling you now that our soccer sessions for the next 3 weeks are on:

9th Oct 2011, 23 Oct 2011, 30 Oct 2011.

Do come if you can.

I do know some of you have other commitments and some of you are on lengthy layoffs and some of you are not in Singapore, but you can do your part in urging those that can come.

The dates are all here and no worries, I’ll inform everyone to read this post.

Do write down your 2 cent worth if possible. You can even state when are you coming in the comments.

Regards,
Blackburn

Talen,

I think it's inevitable that Sunday soccer has changed alot, don't forget that it's something we've been doing for a pretty long time. People will come and go for various reasons, much like many things in life. We've had many of these tough 'recession' periods when interest and morale level is a bit down, but we've always hung on for things to turn around.

What matters is that Sunday soccer is still there for those of us who still can and want to play regularly, and I think we should take heart that the issue this time around is not really the lack of players (15 is great), but the drop in the number of familiar faces. For the regulars still playing, I think it just takes a little change in thinking and attitude. There may be less of the old regulars, but I personally like playing with many of the newer players as the standard of play is better and the freash challenge keeps me on my toes. And it's great that they want to organise the sessions since it keeps Sunday soccer going. Please press on with that. As for the familiar faces, I know how you feel, but things should improve - Lulu should be back next Sunday to fill the massive gap he left behind; Ah Du may also be back soon after he settles his job-to-school transition. Also, please don't lose touch with some of the on-off guys like Brandon and Co.; Matthew and friends; and Tyrell and Co.

To Talen, Lulu and Teh:
There may be fewer GMH members now in soccer, but our level of influence should not drop. Please maintain that sense of ownership for our long-term interests; make the effort to know what is going on even if you're not organising.

I don't think one screwup is going to affect anything. Just a bit Paiseh to the new friends of friends. Jason David are ok to organize but I highly doubt ZH Gil and the rest will want to.

If we feel worn out and dont derive much pleasure from playing with new acquaintances, we can always take a short break away from Sunday soccer and indulge in other activities.

Don't stress yourself out organizing soccer. We all have other worries like families. (future and present)
